The land where safari began.
The Country
Kenya is where it all started — the word "safari" is Swahili, born of this land. Modern wildlife tourism traces its roots to the savannahs and conservancies you will travel through here, and the country remains the most considered, most varied, and in many ways most rewarding safari destination in Africa.
From our head office in Ruiru, Nairobi, we have spent two decades perfecting how Kenya should be experienced. We know which conservancy offers the best leopard sightings in September. We know which Mara camp's guides trained at Ol Pejeta. We know which Amboseli suite catches Kilimanjaro at 6:47am.
This is our home. And we treat every guest as if they are visiting us in it.
The variety is what makes Kenya extraordinary. In a single circuit, you might walk with elephants under Kilimanjaro one morning, track leopards along the Mara River the next, and stargaze from a rewilded Laikipia valley by week's end — each landscape distinct, each guided by masters of the craft.

Kenya's great landscapes.
Where to Travel

The stage. Kenya's most iconic wilderness, home to the Great Migration and some of Africa's most consistent big-cat sightings. Best in the private conservancies.
The view. Vast elephant herds framed by snowcapped Kilimanjaro — one of Africa's most photographed landscapes, and one of its most moving.
The stillness. Private conservancies, rewilded valleys, and horse rides across plains where you might see only your own tracks. Kenya's best-kept secret.
The north. Red-earth landscapes along the Ewaso Ng'iro River, home to rare northern species — reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich
The conservation story. Home to the last two northern white rhinos, East Africa's largest black rhino sanctuary, and a model for how tourism can fund conservation.
The finale. Diani's white sands, Lamu's Swahili timelessness, and the Indian Ocean's dhow-sail rhythm. The perfect end to any safari.
Why Kenya
Six reasons to choose Kenya first.
The Great Migration
From July to October, Kenya's Masai Mara hosts the river crossings — the most dramatic wildlife event on earth.
1.
Private Conservancies
Kenya pioneered the private conservancy model. Fewer vehicles, night drives, walking safaris, and off-road access — an experience far richer than the public reserves.
2.
Big Cat Country
Lion, leopard, and cheetah — Kenya has the highest density of predators of any safari country. You will see them, and you will see them well.
World-Class Guiding
Kenya's Silver and Gold-level guides are among the most qualified in Africa. Our lodge partners employ them by default.
4.
3.
5.
Flawless Logistics
Nairobi's Wilson Airport is the safari world's best-connected hub. Light-aircraft circuits are seamless, and you are never more than an hour from the next landscape.
6.
Beach Finales
Few countries let you go from a Mara sundowner to an Indian Ocean swim in under two hours. Kenya does.

The Country
Africa's grandest theatre..
If Kenya is the birthplace of safari, Tanzania is its grandest stage. The Serengeti runs to the horizon. The Ngorongoro Crater holds an entire ecosystem within its volcanic walls. The country is vast — twice the size of California — and holds within it landscapes so distinct they could each belong to different continents.
We have walked Tanzania's northern circuit from end to end, and we know the southern reserves — Ruaha, Selous, Katavi — that most operators never reach. The choice between north and south defines the trip: north for the iconic, south for the wild.
Tanzania does not whisper. It declares itself, in full voice, every single day.
Pair the northern circuit with Zanzibar for the classic bush-and-beach finale, or fly south for true wilderness without another vehicle in sight. Either way, this is Africa at its most cinematic.

Where to Travel
Tanzania's iconic landscapes.

The elephant kingdom. Ancient baobabs, vast herds, and a quieter alternative to the Serengeti — particularly stunning in the dry season, July through October.
The crater. A 260-square-kilometre volcanic caldera holding an entire ecosystem — lions, elephants, black rhino, and Maasai cattle, all in concentrated harmony.
The wild south. Tanzania's largest national park and one of the last truly remote safari destinations — exceptional predator density, almost no other vehicles.
The Nyerere reserve. Walking safaris, boat safaris on the Rufiji, and a sense of scale that the northern circuit cannot match. For seasoned safari-goers.
The chimpanzee mountains. Track wild chimpanzees on the forested slopes of Lake Tanganyika — one of Africa's most singular and remote wildlife experiences.
The endless plain. Africa's most famous ecosystem and the great stage of the Migration. We work with mobile camps that follow the herds month by month.

Why Tanzania
Six reasons to choose Tanzania first.
The Migration, In Full
From the calving plains of the southern Serengeti to the Mara River crossings, Tanzania holds the Migration for nine months of the year.
1.
Walking & Boating Safaris
The southern reserves permit walking safaris and boat-based game viewing — an entirely different way to experience Africa.
2.
Untouched South
Ruaha, Selous, and Katavi offer wilderness on a scale almost extinct elsewhere — fewer than ten vehicles in areas the size of small countries.
3.
5.
Mahale's Chimpanzees
Track wild chimpanzees in the forests of western Tanzania — a journey few travellers ever take, and none forget.
4.
6.
The Crater
Ngorongoro is unique in the world — a self-contained ecosystem inside a volcanic caldera, with the highest density of large mammals in Africa.
Zanzibar Next Door
Tanzania's Indian Ocean archipelago is a 90-minute flight from the Serengeti — the most natural bush-and-beach pairing in Africa.

The Country
The Pearl of Africa.
Churchill called it the Pearl of Africa, and he was not wrong. Uganda is the only country where you can track mountain gorillas in the morning, ride the Nile in the afternoon, and watch tree-climbing lions the next day. It is Africa in a single, generous country.
For our guests who want primates without the polish — Bwindi's gorillas, Kibale's chimpanzees, the golden monkeys of Mgahinga — Uganda is the deeper, wilder, less-trodden alternative to Rwanda. The trekking is harder. The lodges are simpler. The reward is greater.
Uganda is what Africa felt like twenty years ago — and that is the highest compliment we can pay it.
We pair Uganda often with Kenya — flying in via Entebbe, trekking the gorillas, and emerging onto the Kenyan coast a week later. Few combinations are as varied, or as quietly transformative.

Where to Travel
Uganda's iconic landscapes.

The Impenetrable Forest. Half the world's mountain gorillas live here — and trekking them through the misted understorey is among Africa's great experiences.

The chimpanzees. Kibale holds Africa's highest density of primates — full habituation experiences let you spend a full day with a single chimp family.
The tree-climbing lions. The Ishasha sector's lions famously rest in fig trees by day — a peculiarity found almost nowhere else in Africa.

The Nile's thunder. Africa's most powerful waterfall, where the entire Nile is forced through a six-metre gap. Boat safaris, walking safaris, dramatic landscapes.
The golden monkeys. Uganda's smallest park, on the Rwandan border — gorillas, golden monkeys, and quieter trails than Bwindi.
The horseback safari. Uganda's smallest savannah park — walking and horse-back safaris are permitted, a rare privilege in East Africa.
Why Uganda
Six reasons to choose Uganda first.
Half the World's Gorillas
Bwindi alone holds roughly half of all remaining mountain gorillas — Uganda is the most important country for the species' survival.
1.
Chimpanzee Habituation
Kibale is the only place in Africa where you can spend a full day with a chimp family, joining the researchers — not just an hour.
2.
Tree-Climbing Lions
Queen Elizabeth's Ishasha sector holds one of the only tree-climbing lion populations in Africa — a peculiarity found almost nowhere else.
Lower Permit Costs
Uganda's gorilla permits are roughly half the price of Rwanda's — without compromising on the quality of the experience.
The Source of the Nile
Jinja, where the White Nile begins — a place of geographical and historical weight, with whitewater rafting and quiet boat safaris.
Wild & Less-Travelled
Uganda receives a fraction of Rwanda's safari traffic. The trails are quieter, the experiences less polished, and arguably more authentic.

The Country
An hour that changes
everything.
An hour spent with a habituated mountain gorilla family in Volcanoes National Park is, for many of our guests, the single most moving wildlife encounter of their lives. Rwanda has built its tourism around protecting that hour, and around the country it represents.
Beyond the gorillas, Akagera offers Big Five game viewing — the result of one of Africa's most successful rewilding programmes. Nyungwe Forest holds chimpanzees and the world's longest canopy walk. Kigali itself — clean, calm, considered — sets the tone for a country that has chosen the long view.
Rwanda does not ask you to forget what happened. It asks you to witness what comes next.
We treat Rwanda as a journey of intention. Every guest stays in conservation-funding lodges. Every gorilla permit funds the rangers. The connection between travel and outcome is more direct here than almost anywhere else in Africa.

Where to Travel
Rwanda's defining landscapes.

The gorillas. Five chains of volcanoes hold twelve habituated mountain gorilla families — your hour with them is, for most guests, life-defining.
The canopy. One of Africa's oldest rainforests, home to chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and a 200-metre suspended canopy walk through ancient trees.
The rewilded plain. Rwanda's only Big Five park — a remarkable conservation comeback story, with lion and rhino successfully reintroduced over the last decade.
The capital. Africa's cleanest city — a thoughtful, calm, considered place to begin and end. The Genocide Memorial is essential, and quietly profound.
The pause. A vast freshwater lake on Rwanda's western border — the perfect decompression between gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking.
The newest park. A regenerating forest reserve, home to chimpanzees and golden monkeys — quieter than Nyungwe, with growing conservation success.
Why RWANDA
Six reasons to choose Rwanda first.
The Mountain Gorillas
Twelve habituated families. One hour. No other wildlife encounter compares — and Rwanda's tracking is the most accessible in Africa.
Singita & One&Only
Rwanda holds three of Africa's most extraordinary lodges — Singita Kwitonda, One&Only Gorilla's Nest, and Bisate. Each is a destination in itself.
1.
2.
Conservation You Can See
Every gorilla permit, every lodge night, every park fee directly funds rangers and community projects. The link is unusually direct.
Compact Geography
Rwanda is small. You can trek gorillas, track chimps, and walk the Kigali memorial in a week — without ever flying internally.
4.
The Akagera Comeback
From near-empty in 2010 to a Big Five park today — Akagera is one of Africa's great rewilding success stories, and a privilege to witness.

Kigali Is the Welcome
